{"id":624,"date":"2018-11-10T04:23:05","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T04:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.226.56.164\/?page_id=624"},"modified":"2018-11-12T02:48:37","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T02:48:37","slug":"frank-dicola-eagle-project-us-care-packages","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/troop11nr.com\/?page_id=624","title":{"rendered":"Frank Dicola &#8211; US Care Packages"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am Frank D. and I am a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 11 in my home town of New Rochelle, New York.\u00a0 Life is the rank before Eagle in Boy Scouting.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>To earn the rank of Eagle\u00a0an important\u00a0requirement is to lead a community service project.\u00a0 I am a Junior in Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>For my Eagle Scout Project I organized the sending of care packages to 60 American Soliders stationed together in Iraq. The source of this contact information\u00a0was\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mysoldier.com\/\">www.Mysoldier.com<\/a>. I sent care packages to some individual soldiers whose names I have been given by the VFW in New Rochelle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/34.226.56.164\/sitebuildercontent\/sitebuilderpictures\/troops.jpg\" alt=\"Troop\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u00a0are the ways\u00a0<em>you<\/em>\u00a0can help:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Donate any of the items listed below:\u00a0<\/strong>Even if you can only afford to donate one item or a small amount of money, it will help.\u00a0 Once I have enough items I will be organizing a team of volunteers to pack up the items and ship them to the appropriate military addresses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be a donation collector:<\/strong>\u00a0Help solicit for these donations.\u00a0 Offer to go pick them up from people to make it easier for them to donate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be a packing volunteer:<\/strong>\u00a0Send me your contact information and I will let you know what days we will be packing, labeling and shipping these packages to our troops.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be a shipping donor:<\/strong>\u00a0While the U.S. Postal Service will donate the shipping boxes for free, each box will cost money to ship.\u00a0 Any money you can donate will help pay to get these to our troops.<\/p>\n<p>Shipping donors will be acknowledged for the number of boxes they pay to ship.\u00a0 Each box costs $11 to ship:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bronze Donor &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>One box<\/p>\n<p><strong>Silver Donor-\u00a0<\/strong>3 boxes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gold Donor-<\/strong>5 boxes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Platinum Donor-<\/strong>\u00a010 boxes<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be a letter writer:\u00a0<\/strong>Each box shipped to a soldier will have a letter in it from someone from home, telling them thank you for the enormous personal sacrifice they are\u00a0 making.\u00a0 Contact me to volunteer as a letter writer and I will arrange to have your letter shipped to a soldier with a care package.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The names of all volunteers and donors will be posted on this website.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Contact me to let me know how you would like to help and I will give you further instructions.\u00a0 You can reach me at\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"mailto:yoshgunn@gmail.com\">yoshgunn@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If you would like to help us with a monetary donation, please click the donations\u00a0link below.\u00a0Thank You<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>A Different Christmas Poem<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,<\/p>\n<p>I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.<\/p>\n<p>My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,<\/p>\n<p>My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,<\/p>\n<p>Transforming the yard to a winter delight<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,<br \/>\nCompleted the magic that was Christmas Eve.<br \/>\nMy eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,<br \/>\nSecure and surrounded by love I would sleep.<br \/>\nIn perfect contentment, or so it would seem,<br \/>\nSo I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.<\/p>\n<p>The sound wasn&#8217;t loud, and it wasn&#8217;t too near,<br \/>\nBut I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.<br \/>\nPerhaps just a cough, I didn&#8217;t quite know, Then the<br \/>\nsure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.<br \/>\nMy soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,<br \/>\nAnd I crept to the door just to see who was near.<\/p>\n<p>Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,<br \/>\nA lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.<br \/>\nA soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,<br \/>\nPerhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.<br \/>\nAlone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,<br \/>\nStanding watch over me, and my wife and my child.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;What are you doing?&#8217; I asked without fear,<br \/>\n&#8216;Come in this moment, it&#8217;s freezing out here!<br \/>\nPut down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,<br \/>\nYou should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!&#8217;<br \/>\nFor barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,<br \/>\nAway from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.<\/p>\n<p>To the window that danced with a warm fire&#8217;s light<br \/>\nThen he sighed and he said &#8216;Its really all right,<br \/>\nI&#8217;m out here by choice. I&#8217;m here every night.&#8217;<br \/>\n&#8216;It&#8217;s my duty to stand at the front of the line,<br \/>\nThat separates you from the darkest of times.<\/p>\n<p>No one had to ask or beg or implore me,<br \/>\nI&#8217;m proud to stand here like my fathers before me.<br \/>\nMy Gramps died at &#8216; Pearl on a day in December,&#8217;<br \/>\nThen he sighed, &#8216;That&#8217;s a Christmas &#8216;Gram always remembers.&#8217;<br \/>\nMy dad stood his watch in the jungles of &#8216; Nam &#8216;,<br \/>\nAnd now it is my turn and so, here I am.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve not seen my own son in more than a while,<br \/>\nBut my wife sends me pictures, he&#8217;s sure got her smile.<br \/>\nThen he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,<br \/>\nThe red, white, and blue&#8230; an American flag.<br \/>\nI can live through the cold and the being alone,<br \/>\nAway from my family, my house and my home.<\/p>\n<p>I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,<br \/>\nI can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.<br \/>\nI can carry the weight of killing another,<br \/>\nOr lay down my life with my sister and brother..<br \/>\nWho stand at the front against any and all,<br \/>\nTo ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;\u00a0 So go back inside,&#8217; he said, &#8216;harbor no fright,<br \/>\nYour family is waiting and I&#8217;ll be all right.&#8217;<br \/>\n&#8216;But isn&#8217;t there something I can do, at the least,<br \/>\n&#8216;Give you money,&#8217; I asked, &#8216;or prepare you a feast?<br \/>\nIt seems all too little for all that you&#8217;ve done,<br \/>\nFor being away from your wife and your son.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,<br \/>\n&#8216;Just tell us you love us, and never forget.<br \/>\nTo fight for our rights back at home while we&#8217;re gone,<br \/>\nTo stand your own watch, no matter how long.<br \/>\nFor when we come home, either standing or dead,<br \/>\nTo know you remember we fought and we bled.<br \/>\nIs payment enough, and with that we will trust,<br \/>\nThat we mattered to you as you mattered to us.&#8217;<br \/>\n<strong>******************<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many<br \/>\npeople as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our<br \/>\nU.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these<br \/>\nfestivities. Let&#8217;s try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe.
